Library Open Sundays Through June, 2006

The Library will be open Sundays 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. until the end of June. From July through the Labor Day weekend in September, the Library will be closed on Sundays.

Book Sale, June 10-11, 2006

On Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11, 2006, we will hold our last book sale of the 2005-2006 year. This will be our first sale in Library’s newly-reopened Highland Avenue Library building.

Peter Vanderwarker, author, architectural photographer and Boston Sunday Globe Cityscapes columnist, will discuss “Civic Architecture and Cultural Aspirations” at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Needham Public Library.

Author Timothy Kenslea, The Sedgwicks in Love, May 7, 2006

Needham resident Tim Kenslea has written an insightful look at the social mores in the 1810’s as reflected through the experiences of seven brothers and sisters in one prominent Massachusetts family. The Sedgwicks in Love is a narrative exploration of all the things that were changing in the way men and women related to each other in the generation born just after the American Revolution. In a November feature article about the book, the Boston Globe said, “Kenslea’s nonfiction narrative account of the role of marriage choices in this brave new world is an American incursion into Jane Austen territory.”

Author Barbara Delinsky, April 23, 2006

Barbara Delinsky, the national bestselling author, will present “An Author’s Roots: From One Small Library to the World.” She will discuss her evolution as a writer, and the impact of a library on that evolution.

Author Anita Diamant, The Last Days of Dogtown, March 19, 2006

Anita Diamant, author of the bestselling The Red Tent, will read from her newest book and third novel, The Last Days of Dogtown, set on Cape Ann in the early 1800s.

Lectures to Celebrate New Library Opening, Spring, 2006

The Friends of the Needham Public Library and the library Trustees will cosponsor an exciting lecture series in Spring 2006 to celebrate the opening of the renovated and expanded library building. The lectures are free and open to the public.

New Library Opens, March 17, 2006

The new Library building opened on Friday, March 17, 2006 after undergoing an extensive reconstruction project.

Library Closed, February 27 Through March 16

The Library is closed from February 27 through March 16 during the move back to the Highland Avenue location. Everything is being moved from the Library’s temporary home at the High Rock School back to the permanent Highland Avenue location. The Library will reopen in the reconstructed Highland Avenue building on March 17, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.

New Library Will Open March 17, 2006

The Library will be closed Monday, February 27 - Thursday, March 16, 2006. The Library will reopen on Friday, March 17, 2006, in the reconstructed Highland Avenue building.

Book Sale, December 3-5, 2005

From Saturday, December 3 through Monday, December 5, 2005, we will hold our second book sale of the 2005-2006 year. This will be a Pre-Moving Clearance Sale, the last book sale at the Library’s temporary location. This sale will have the same hours, sales layout, and prices as the September 24-25 sale, with the addition of an extra free day.

In a celebration of food, family and Middle Eastern culture, the Friends of the Needham Public Library is sponsoring a free author’s event featuring award-winning author Diana Abu-Jaber, who will share stories from her new book, The Language of Baklava.

On Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, 2005, we will hold our first book sale of the 2005-2006 year. Like the last three book sales, this sale will be at the High Rock School.
