In 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created, author Charles C. Mann provides an arresting look at the ecological exchange precipitated by re-established contact between geologically separated Eurasia and the Americas. He traces its impact through global history and economics to contemporary world issues. 1493 received very positive reviews, and was on TIME magazine's list of the top ten nonfiction books of 2011.

1493 is a sequel to the author's bestselling 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus, which won the National Academy of Sciences' Keck award for the best book of the year. For samples of the critical response to 1491, click here.

Charles C. Mann is also the author or co-author of Before Columbus: The Americas of 1491, an adaptation of 1491 for younger readers; At Large: The Strange Case of the World’s Biggest Internet Invasion; Noah’s Choice: The Future of Endangered Species; The Aspirin Wars: Money, Medicine and 100 Years of Rampant Competition; and The Second Creation: Makers of the Revolution in Twentieth-Century Physics.
